What Is Expository / Informative Writing?

An expository article / essay is all about explaining and even giving descriptions about nonfiction topics, informative articles / essays stick to facts with no room for giving opinions. In 5th grade you are expected to be able to produce 5 well written paragraphs that cite the text as evidence to back up the thesis statement as asked for in the prompt.

   The ideas in informative essays follow a pattern, or

structure, to make it easier for the reader to follow along. Informative essays start with a big idea. All of the information is divided into topics, and those are shaped into paragraphs. Each paragraph has 2-4 details that give more information about that topic.
